Norman Forsyth, He Will Be Missed
- Norman Forsyth,
76, of Millington, Michigan, died Jan. 13, 2008, at the Tuscola County Medical
Care Facility in Caro, Michigan. Mr. Forsyth was a longtime member of the
USTA and a lifetime member of the Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association. He
served on the board of directors of the MHHA from 1993–2001 as an Executive
Committee member...

Michigan Equine Conference set for December, September 24, 2007 -
Michigan’s equine industry will host the Michigan Equine
Conference on December 12 and 13, 2007. This is a united
effort to create awareness, market and promote the many facets of
Michigan’s equine industry and examine the needs and desires of
Michigan’s equine industry members. “Michigan’s diverse equine
industry is an integral part of Michigan’s
$60.1 billion agriculture base and as such is a key contributor to
the state’s physical and fiscal health,” said Dr. Steve
Halstead, Michigan Department of Agriculture State Veterinarian.
"Whether Michigan residents are in it for leisure or business, this
conference will allow Michigan’s equine industry members to play a

2007 - Undefeated in four starts, Miss Scarlett

Oldfield, the Browning Blue Chip filly grabbed the lead in the
stretch and held on by a half length over a late-closing Pavla
Hanover...
Kentucky Equine Humane Center to Open, September 6, 2007 -
The KyEHC is a first-of-its-kind facility, established with the
specific goal of providing owners with a humane option when they
need to give up their horses. The center is located on a tranquil,
50-acre horse farm just outside of Lexington, Kentucky, which has
already become a safe refuge for at-risk horses of all breeds and
disciplines. No horse in a precarious situation is ever turned away.
Michigan House Hears Testimony on Slots, August 30,
2007 - There was testimony given earlier this week in
Michigan's House of Representatives about legalizing slot machines
at the state's racetracks, but according to a report by the
Associated Press there is no formal proposal, although one could
come soon.

Unveils Plans for Permanent Casino, August 8, 2007 -
Fulfilling its promise to design one of the east coast’s premier
casinos, officials from the Meadows Racetrack & Casino today
unveiled its plans for a $155 million casino that includes a
200-room hotel and luxury spa. The permanent 350,000 square-foot
casino, which will create 1,200 jobs, is slated to open in early
2009...
Hoosier Park Unveils
Initial Plans for New Slots Facility, August 8, 2007
-Hoosier Park’s plans for its new slots facility was
granted approval by the Anderson Parks Department at its Aug. 7,
2007 meeting. Those same plans will be filed today with Anderson’s
Board of Zoning Appeals. Final approvals are then needed by both
Indiana’s Gaming and Racing Commissions before ground can be broken
on the new facility...
YUKON CORNELIUS Sets Track Record at Hazel Park, August 6, 2007- The 8-year-old gelding Yukon
Cornelius re-wrote the history books on Saturday (August 4) at Hazel
Park Raceway when he stopped the timer in 1:50.3 in Hazel's featured
Invitational Pace. The former record of 1:51 was set by Bob
McIntosh's war horse Ponder just one short year ago...
Michigan Futurity Events Contested, August 1, 2007 -
The Michigan Futurity for
2- and 3-year-olds was contested on Tuesday, July 31, at the
Fowlerville Fair in Fowlerville, Michigan. Total purses for the day
were in excess of $130,000. With a brand new limestone racing
surface, compliments of the Fowlerville Horsemen’s Fundraiser,
combined with the hot and humid weather, many track records would
surely be broken...
